This song is about a real challenge in my life; Traveling Light. Jesus said that the Good News he brought to humanity was "easy" and "light". Sadly, most of us, Christians included, don't seem to find this Good News either easy or light. This song is my heart's cry to manage to walk this life in an unforced rhythm of grace*, in the light of being perfectly loved by the one who knows me best. He walks us through valleys (hard times) as well our pain, and he does it in such a way that we might be surpised by joy**.
I (along with Tanya and Simon) wrote this song quite some time back. I even recorded it with my Dearly Beloved (Tanya) in 2016. But then .... well, life happened. I have thought of the message often since then and sung it to myself.
Recently, my dear friend, Simon, said it was time to record "Travel Light", which is the other name for this song. I looked back and found we have done a 2-vocal (Ian and Tanya) and 2-instrument version - Ian on his acoustic Guild, plugged in and miked, and Tanya playing a Logic Pro Steinway Grand piano sound. I really like the way it comes across. It was done "live" in our home studio - we just plugged in and played from our hearts. The ending was unplanned, which you may well notice as you listen. Recently we discovered the studio dummers in Logic Pro so we addded some of that, and hey presto, it's a whole other story. Enjoy.
